The Need

mom and daughter

Initiated in 1995, Acres of Diamonds (Acres) is a transitional housing agency founded on the principle that no mom should raise her kids on the street, in a car, or any unsafe homeless situation. Acres mission is to create lasting change for homeless moms and kids through a caring community.

We know that homelessness is not the end of the story for the families residing at Acres. With help, structure, and resources they can stop the cycle of homelessness, addiction and abuse and become self-sufficient, contributing members of their community.

Recognizing that our region simply does not have enough housing opportunities for those in need, Acres desires to increase our capacity and address this challenging community issue.

At this critical time, Acres has launched Phase I of the Rescue Home Initiative to renovate and update our current home and apartment building, where we currently serve 12 families at one time. This work will increase capacity to 18 families by:

  • Developing additional resident rooms in our original home
  • Expanding current kitchen, laundry and restroom facilities
  • Renovating apartments to house larger families
  • Creating additional classroom space
  • Bringing home and apartment building up to current safety and fire inspection codes

Phase II is a new Rescue Home, designed for 15 more families and includes a Day Care which is tremendously important for the families at Acres. In order for the Rescue Home to become a reality Acres will conduct a Capital Campaign to raise the necessary funds.
